[Tutorial] How To Download Updates For Windows XP After End Of Support

Post by MajorSky17 »

Since automatic updates in Windows XP (and other older Windows versions) is now broken, here is an easy alternative method to check, download and install updates that are applicable to your XP machine, directly from Microsoft:

1. Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x86) (link).
2. Install Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.256 (link).
3. Install Internet Explorer 8 (link).
4. Download WSUS_Proxy_NT5 (link).
5. Download Windows Update MiniTool (link).
6. Open WSUS_Proxy_NT5/Add_wsus.bat and close when instructed to.
7. Open WSUS_Proxy_NT5/Run_wsus.bat but don't close this - it must be left open whilst updates are found and downloaded.
8. Open en_wumt/wumt_x86.exe (32-bit) or wumt_x64.exe (64-bit).
9. Click "Check for updates". After searching for updates completes, you will get list of all updates. Choose those you wish to download, then click "Install".
10. Close the WSUS_Proxy_NT5/Run_wsus.bat window.
